Aftercare Advice: Stifle Joint Injection
Starling Equine Vets Aftercare Advice
Your horse has had medication injected into their stifle joints today. Please follow the advice below to support their recovery.
Injection Site Care
There is no dressing over the injection sites.
Please try and make sure that stables are kept as clean as possible and there is ample clean bedding available
Rest & Turnout
First 48 hours: Box rest.
Following 5 days: Try to restrict turnout to a flat area, and (as best as you can) avoid the horse running around
Exercise & Work
· Exercise is dependent on the reason we are medicating the stifles. We should have provided a clear plan. If you have any questions please call the office.
We are happy to:
Show you suitable exercises
Offer a rehabilitation programme
Direct you to helpful videos on our social media pages
Complimentary Therapies
We recommend your horse sees a physiotherapist 4-6 weeks following medication.
Ensure your farrier knows that your horse has had their stifles medicated. It is possible we have already suggested some changes. We can liase with your farrier directly if you would like.
It is likely that your horse will change shape post medication, so it is sensible to book a saddle fit for 8-12 weeks post medication
